Empowering Abilities Program 2024

Launched in January 2024, this program is a collaborative effort between EGT Academy, Together Inclusive, and GIZ Egypt. Its mission was to advance Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in Basic Automation, CNC Machine Operation, Entrepreneurship, and Employability Skills.

Together Inclusive (TI) had the honor of supporting this groundbreaking initiative. Our involvement began with conducting an accessibility audit of the academy to ensure it was ready to welcome PWD. We then led the recruitment process, from online applications to the final selection of 17 trainees: 65% with hearing impairments, 29% with physical impairments, and 6% with visual impairments.

Throughout the program, we ensured tailored reasonable accommodations enabling full access to the program. One of the program’s key strengths was the inclusion of Ms. Ola Ali, a sign language interpreter with a mechanical engineering background, who skillfully translated technical concepts for trainees with hearing impairment.

Before PWD training commenced, Dr. Mostafa Attia, founder and CEO of Together Inclusive, delivered a two-day workshop to the EGTA team on disability etiquette, inclusive language, and inclusive teaching methodologies, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for the trainees.

Together Inclusive then provided two key trainings to the trainees: an online entrepreneurship skills training by Mr. Ahmed Nazmy and an on-site employability skills training by Ms. Nevin Saad. These trainings, rich with practical activities, were highly successful and showcased the trainees’ commitment and hard work.
